Early Bird ChildCare Centers Celebrates Mrs. Pat Marcello in Its 50th School Year
On May 21st, Early Bird ChildCare Centers, Inc. celebrated a remarkable
milestone—its 50th school year—by honoring the woman who started it all. Founder Mrs. Pat Marcello, affectionately known to generations of children as “Mrs. Marshmallow”, celebrated her 80th birthday surrounded by the laughter, love, and excitement of the Universal Pre-Kindergarten class at Early Bird.
The children hosted a birthday party in her honor, complete with cake, colorful decorations, and singing, followed by a lively performance by The Magic of Mr. J., led by Dave and Kathleen Jeffers—longtime friends of Early Bird whose own
children once attended the center. Their return made the celebration even more
special.

Mr. J’s show had the children roaring with laughter as he performed silly antics, interactive tricks, and high-energy routines that kept the entire audience captivated. The room buzzed with excitement as children eagerly volunteered to participate. Behind the scenes, Mrs. Kathleen Jeffers crafted a stunning balloon tower, a whimsical balloon bouquet, and even a balloon crown especially for Mrs. Marcello—adding a personal, artistic touch to the celebration.

The show’s grand finale left everyone in awe: a real white rabbit appeared seemingly out of thin air. Mrs. Marcello was delighted by the magical surprise and loved the bunny so much she didn’t want to let it go! Each child also had the chance to gently pet the rabbit, making the moment unforgettable.
The celebration reflected the heart of Early Bird—joy, community, and a deep love for children—and Mrs. Marcello looks forward to another 50 years! There is still room available for next year’s UPK class at Early Bird, and registration is now open for Early Bird’s preschool “Fun in the Sun” summer program and its school-age Adventure Camp. Also offered this summer are Red Cross swimming lessons in Early Bird’s private, heated pool. For more information, call 716-592-3868.
